Foodie’s Alert

Unico is not in the tourist area of Tulum. It’s just 100 yds or so up the road heading to Coba from main street. Once you find Unico be prepared for excellent preparation and flavors. The owner a New York trained chef serves nightly specials like octopus and basil pappardelle which was to die for. The snook with roasted red pepper and chaya coulis was also excellent.
All in all great food anywhere, but here in Tulum.

Very good staff

The restaurant was recomended by one of the staff who works in the morning til the bakery in town. We had one of our best meals in Mexico during our two weeks visit. We was 5 people who had a very good evning in Unico. Thanks to all staff, specialy Tobias form our group had a good time.

Why is this restaurant (only) in Tulum?

After having day after day of Mexican food (tortillas and cheese) this was culinary bliss on a gargantuan scale.

- the best cheesecake ever created
- all 5 starters we had (between 2)
- the magic goats cheese balls of heaven

We are still slightly confused why such a great restaurant would exist on the corner of a road in Tulum, but it does (we loved the ambiance of the passing trucks).

You should visit (we’ll be back for breakfast)

The best meal we ate in Tulum

Firstly the food was fantastic, especially for the price. The portion sizes were not large, except for the special which was mussels – the plate was overflowing! They were also very generous with the wine.
The service was first class, and we felt very well looked after.
The only negative is the location – away from the main strip of restaurants and right on a main junction.
But don’t let that turn you away because you’ll be missing out on a fantastic evening.

Great food and Staff!

My husband and I came to Unico because of TA reviews and were not disappointed! I was looking for a restaurant that served grilled octopus and Unico’s version was very tasty! The menu has a nice selection for any diner and the wine selection is very good. Our server Ivan was a delight and attended to our needs and requests (including his photographic skills) in a professional manner.
We were happy to meet Brian, the owner and hear his story. We recommend this restaurant as a good choice when dining in Tulum!

Best food of our holiday in Mexico so far

We went to unico after reading the reviews on trip advisor and were so glad we did. It took several attempts to find it – it’s on the road to Coba just after the big junction with Tulum main road. But this is the only downside – the food was amazing and the service excellent.

We had hamburger ( excellent) and mussels in white wine sauce which were as good as any I’ve had in France. The chef from New York totally understood when we asked for a gluten free option for our daughter who is coeliac and happily did us carrot soup with fried potatoes ( fresh oil).

My strawberry daiquiri was In a huge glass and they have a very good wine list which our waiter was very knowledgeable about.

Price wise we paid the same as we did the night before for a very average meal on the main Tulum strip by the beach so it’s incredibly good value considering the quality of the food. Well worth the drive/ short taxi trip.

5/5 for service and food

This was a great find in Tulum. It’s a little way out of the town, but worth the walk / cycle.
Our waiter was friendly and helpful.
The food was modern with a local twist. We both had fish dishes which were cooked perfectly.
The restaurant was pretty quiet when we were there but so were most places. It was excellent value, and my favourite meal in Tulum.

New York Cuisine in Tulum

We have been surprised by all the great dining options that Tulum has to offer! We stumbled on this place due to the reviews and thank you everyone for helping us find it. The menu changes with the local ingredients offered. My wife had the red snapper and it was amazing.

The owner/chef was kind enough to come out and share his culinary background and make sure we were taken care of.

Great value, great food and great staff! Must go!

Outstanding food, Great service

My family and I have just been to Unico and not knowing what to expect I was blow away the menu is among the shorter ones but what they lack in quantity they sure do make up for in quality… All I can say is I will be dreaming of fried goat cheese in honey and rosemary, octopus and chocolate lava cake <3
Thank you Brian for makeing my day and you Huvertos/gili(forgive me if I misspelled you name;).) For recommending UNICO.
When I return to mexico I will return to Unico for sure.

Greetings & Recommendations from Tobias Løhndorf

We love this place!

The food at Unico is fabulous. The chef, Brian, takes the freshest of ingredients and creates dishes to remember. Whether it is the catch of the day, or the home made pasta, the hummous with pickled vegetables, or the molten lava chocolate pudding….the quality of the food kept us coming back for more!
